1st Prize - Entry 370: "MultipliCITY" |
Xiaokai Huang; Dong Jin & Lingyun Yang Harvard University; Tongji University United States; China |
The purpose of "MultipliCITY" is to promote a more effective and efficient life cycle and energy usage in the urbanization process through a strategy of adaptive and flexible urban programs according to the site, the environment, and the proper design to make full use of natural light, which reinforces the sustainability of the building and the city. |
2nd Prize - Entry 809: "Cloud Skyscraper" |
Sungjin Jang, Hojun Choi, Yohwan Jo, Youngshin Kim, Sewook Son,Yonsei University; Hyunkyu Lim, Konkuk University Korea |
The "Cloud Skyscraper" proposes a structure with the capability of absorbing moisture from fog, clouds and rain to be collected, stored, and gradually evaporated to supplement water moisture during hot and dry periods. With this natural cyclical process (requiring zero net energy input), the heat island effect is countered, local temperature lowered and flood damage reduced. |
3rd Prize - Entry 628: "Vertical Neighborhood" |
Daniel Sacristán Contreras Escuela Tecnica de Arquitectura de Madrid Spain |
This tower aims to create a self-sustaining neighborhood with a unique element - a continuous pedestrian ramp. This ramp acts like a typical street, allowing access to all of the housing units and public facilities. When a tall building takes on the characteristics of a vertical street, it is able to move beyond the typical high-rise and become an expansion of public space while providing more opportunities for social interaction. |
Special Mention - Entry 188: "Culture Transcend" |
Davin Tanasa University of Melbourne Australia |
In this project, conventional residential habitation is extrapolated into a more open arrangement to foster a more connected community in the vertical world. Floors are grouped into unique "blocks" and lobbies replace corridors, where people of different generations can gather and interact; kids can play, and seniors can tend to communal gardens. |
